Nozomi at Burning Man, 2012
The legend of Senbazuru says that anyone who gives 1000 paper cranes will be granted a wish by a crane. In Japan, the crane is sacred and fabled to live for 1000 years. This legend combined with the spirit and principles of Burning Man was the inspiration for Nozomi. Nozomi was seven origami steel cranes mounted on ten-foot poles. The cranes were lit from within with LED spot-lights and animated LED strips.
Nozomi was funded by Ignition Northwest and donations from the community and was shown at Burning Man and Critical Northwest 2012.

The wooden crane in the middle had a storage box stocked with origami paper and markers, so participants could write a wish on a folded crane. The instructions on folding the cranes was inscriped on the wings in many languages.
Spotlights were used to highlight the covering materials and geometric designs on each crane.
The animated LEDs created shifting patterns of light.
